3. Pathway programs for low grade students

International students with low academic scores can also get into UK universities.

Undergraduate Pathway program, International Year 1, and Pre-Masters program can help them.

Students with low academic and IELTS scores can take the Undergraduate Pathway program. After completing that, they can get admission into a Bachelor’s degree in any University.

Whereas the International Year 1 program allows students to study 2 semester pathway programs. They can get admitted into 2nd year in any partner university in a bachelor’s program. This helps them save 1 year of bachelor’s degree. Students with a gap in studies and low English Language Skills can take this option.

Finally, the pre-masters program has the same purpose as International Year 1. The only difference is that it is for Master’s degree students.

The most important rule to get into any of these pathway programs is having SELT as a language skill test. SELT is an IELTS for UKVI. Pathway programs do not accept any other English language skill test.

Generally, UK universities need 6.5 bands in IELTS. But many universities in the UK give IELTS waivers to the students. Students with good marks in English in their previous education can get an IELTS waiver. Students with 70% marks in English subject out of the total available marks can get an IELTS waiver.

4. Programs with Work Placement

Universities in the UK provide programs with 1 year of Industry work placement. Generally, this option is available for master’s degree students only. Work placement year helps international students get industrial experience. This would help them in getting important skills to get a full-time job offer after graduation.

To get an extra year of work placement, students must have a 6.5 bands IELTS score. Industrial placement requires good English language skills.

5. Options Without IELTS available

Students must have good English language skills to study in the UK. To be able to complete their higher education in the UK, students should have good IELTS scores.

Generally, UK universities need 6.5 bands in IELTS. But many universities in the UK give IELTS waivers to the students. Students with good marks in English in their previous education can get an IELTS waiver. Students with 70% marks in English subject out of the total available marks can get an IELTS waiver.

Universities in the UK also consider the medium of instruction letters to waive IELTS, in which students must have completed his/her entire previous education in English medium.

Many universities in the UK conduct their own English language skill tests. Students without IELTS can take these university language tests and get admission. Telephonic and Skype interviews are also conducted by certain universities. These interviews help universities check the language skills and motivation of the students.

There are many other ways to get into UK universities without giving an IELTS test. But it is advisable to take the IELTS test and get the required score. This will help international students get confidence in learning the English language. Students with IELTS scores will get first preference for a place of study.
